Yesterday my french knot partner came over so we could begin our knot making in earnest. I had an idea I would get a hundred or so knots done before Joan came over and impress her with my initiative. But I decided to make coffee and clean the bathroom instead.
We are starting this project with different backgrounds. Mine is a blank slate. Hers is a wild array of color.
I had not even considered starting with something this bold because I thought the knots would get lost in all that color. As you can see the super bright colors she is using will not stand a chance of blending in.
I would like to tell you that in the course of a few hours we made remarkable headway, but you know better than that. We first had to discuss all the other projects we are working on.
She just came back from Florida where one of her Aunts gave her this quilt top that had been pieced by her grandmother way back when. Joan is going to hand quilt it and finish it up. Don't you love the idea of starting something that in the future a relative that isn't even born yet might finish up?
Imagine all the sweet dreams you could have under the cover of butterflies made up from old house dresses and such.
By the time I closely examined every butterfly on that quilt top it was time to go to lunch. Which was at "Limestone" a new eatery in downtown Lawrence. You should go. We had the pizza with local ham, kale, gruyere, and red chili oil with the limestone simple salad on the side. Highly recommended.
After all that you probably think we didn't make any knots at all. But we did. And MORE importantly we scheduled our next session. Stay tuned. No telling for sure where this will end up.
