Yesterday while the wind blew and the rain fell I whipped up a batch of tomato soup using this recipe.
It remains my go-to for a classic tomato soup. Easy, quick, no fancy ingredients. I happen to have one big bag of last season's tomatoes left in the freezer and wanted to use it up, plus Chris said he wanted ham and cheese sandwiches with tomato soup for supper.
When he brought this up in conversation I said "great, I have been wanting to make a batch of tomato soup and use of that bag of tomatoes in the freezer". He got a quizzical look on his face and said "but there's a can of tomato soup in the pantry".
To which I said "why would you want to eat that when you can eat home-made?"
...to which he said "well you could eat that and I could eat the canned kind",
to which I said "well I need to take something to work for lunch for the next few days anyway".
See how we avoided a potential confrontation?
And I have lunch for 4 days instead of 3.
