It's a breakfast throwdown. Before you automatically vote for the chef of the house (who, given his superior cooking abililities, I would normally vote for as well) let me show you the end products. Then I leave it to you to decide.
The breakfast prepared by Chris.
Please note the absence of bananas and the fact that he puts his sugar on after the milk. It just sits there and does not drift down with the milk and evenly distribute it's sweetness among those little nuggets of oaty goodness.
The breakfast prepared by Carol.
Irish oatmeal over chopped dates, pears, and bananas. Topped with greek yogurt, brown sugar, and walnuts. I made enough for Chris but he chose to go with the cheerios. Thus the throwdown.
sorry carol: your breakfast is suffering from a severe identity crisis. A large bowl of pure Irish oatmeal with some brown sugar and milk knows its assignment and gets out there to do the job. Ditto a slightly more blue collar bowl of cheerios (unwet sugar notwithstanding). As a daily cheerio eater, I go with Chris's offering. I am noticing an alarming greek yogurt trend in your eating habits: I'll bet you put it on lasagna! giggles to you both.

What was he thinking?! ;-)

Even tho' Cheerios is my favorite cold cereal, the way Chris chooses to eat his with the sugar sitting on top of the cereal makes me think of sand in the mouth...um, no...I'll go with the Irish Oatmeal with all the goodies. I LUV Fage (pronounced FAY-eh) Greek yogurt...I get it at Trader Joe's. Do they have that store in KS?
I'm heading back to Weight Watchers after having a serious attack of Cinnabon craving...the aftermath of that has resulted in a hip disaster, not to mention going up a size. Why is everything yummy so treacherous? Not fair.

Not a hard choice at all, your breakfast, can you come back it for me someday, lol. Hands down you are the winner, that looks absolutely delicious.

Anyone who chooses Cheerios here is just being stubborn. No contest.

Fruit-laden oatmeal for the win! (And, Kashi Heart to Heart oat cereal beats Cheerios into the ground anyway). Love reading your homey posts on this blog (first time commenter, reader since the beginning)

Ha ha, I just had a bowl of honey nut cheerios for breakfast this morning and boy was it good! I am usually the oatmeal eater, and yours certainly looks scrumptious, but there is something about cheerios that is addictive....wonder what they're putting in it.

I put walnuts on my Cheerios and sometimes fruit also but the oatmeal looks very good. In fact it made me think about morning and that maybe I should go to bed so that I can get up soon and eat breakfast.

There is absolutely nothing so satisfying as oatmeal - if this what we call porage - topped with honey and pouring cream. Wicked for the waistline.
My husband's Scottish father used to make porage with water and salt so since childhood Hugh won't touch it. Too many cruel memories of having to eat it next day - or next.
And worse (this is traditional) his father used to make it, pour it onto a plate and then slide the solid porage into the drawer of the kitchen table. This still amazes me.

I'm sorry to agree with Chris, but there is nothing better than a cold bowl of Cheerios, not too much milk, and sugar sprinkled, that's right- on top! It's like the icing on a cake. Perfection. Your breakfast does look healthier though, and appetizing. And although I'm a very picky eater I would've tried a bite. I wish I could get my husband to pick cold cereal over a hand prepared super scrumptious breakfast; it would save me a lot of time in the kitchen! Not that anything I cook turns out super scrumptious.
