Boy, oh boy...do I love Japanese maples. One of the most incredible sights I ever saw in my long life was at a nursery in San Diego owned by an Japanese couple. The had a forest of Japanese maples BONSAIed...In a dish no larger than my oval casserole was this miniature forest. It was 100 years old, planted by her great grandfather...I was beyond dazzled and wanted it terribly...but the woman wouldn't part with it. Who could blame her? A living breathing heirloom. The colors of the leaves were exactly like the ones in your photo! I can see every little tree in my mind's eye...perfection. Deserving of a Haiku.
