You must admire the tenacity of the morning glory. I planted some 5 years ago and it comes up every year bringing some nice color to the garden when everything else is a little tired looking.
I like how it will grab onto anything near it and climb up to show off it's color. That's why I never cut off the heads of the Husker Red Penstemon after it has finished blooming. It is absolutely about providing a ready made trellis and not one bit about being lazy.
I have always loved Morning Glories...shades of childhood. My gran had them climbing on a roof of the chicken coop. I was shocked to find that gardeners hate them, an introduced species and consider them a menace! A Morning Glory?????
Their plan was to irradicate them, yank them out by the roots! No way was I going along with that game plan. I wondered if they'd want to irradicate themselves, since most of the people living here come from non-native stock.

You must gather all your gardening tips together and publish a book of them....I am delighted to learn that I may not be a lazy gardener after all. I have a lot to learn from you!

I never cut the seed heads off my Husker Red Penstemon because it is one plant I don't mind reseeding wherever it wants! :)

I believe your ready made trellis is the very definition of ingenious... thereby making you the same.

That bright purple color just made me want to add morning glories to my garden. Is there anything special I need to know about them?
