Years ago (2006) I saw an exhibit of their quilts at the deYoung Museum in San Francisco. I am not a quilter but I was so struck by the beauty of their designs. Each one so unique and personal. Fortunately, I purchased a poster and it is still hanging in my living room.

The Gee's Ben quilts are beautiful, and seem to have inspired a whole movement in modern quilting. The women of Gee's Bend are true artists.

What talent...amazing!

Thanks so much Carol for including the video, what a treasure!
Surely the best 27 minutes of my day, any day. I am sharing.
Thanks again!

There was a lengthy program on PBS about the Gee's Bend Quilters. I bet a search on Google would cough up something. Did you know that kits for the quilts are available?

I love the simplicity of the women in the video, the sense of community, helping one another, didn't have a pot or a window but they were happy and blessed with their singing and love of making do with what little they had. What a sad thing that that sense of community/togetherness no longer exists.
