The book below was snatched up at The Raven bookstore simply on the basis of it's cover. Can you look at that lettering without wanting to grab a brush right this instant and make yourself an alphabet? I can't!
The story that goes with this cover is just as wildly colorful and sad and funny and worth reading. While I am at it. I know I have told you about My Favorite Things before. I like to keep it by my bed and review it regularly.
Every time I do that I find something new to study. Last night I found myself looking at her words as much as her paintings. There is much to like there.
This morning when I awakened, as soon as I got out of the shower, and after I dressed for work, I grabbed a chair and tried to balance it on my chin. It's way harder than Maira makes it look.
But the beauty of Maira Kalman is that she makes you want to try things. Things you think you can't do.
Okay, you convinced me. I'm going to buy that Maira Kalman book right now.
