Before I tell you about all the marvelous things we saw at the Smoky Hill River Festival on Saturday, I want to start this post with my FAVORITE thing about the festival this year. Just so you will be clear and so it doesn't get lost amidst all the other stuff. My very favorite thing was meeting Bill and Bev Salmon right as we were leaving. When I asked if I could take their picture they were not only obliging and friendly, but Bill made sure that to tell me their last name was "...Salmon, like the canned fish".
There was plenty of shade and spots to sit, wonderful art, great people watching, artists giving demonstrations, stuff to eat, cold things to drink... in other words, something for everyone.
Whew! If you are still with me thanks for your persistence. See why I didn't want the Salmons to get lost? The Smoky Hill River festival remains the "hands down best" of all the festivals I have ever attended. It's the great park and big trees with lots of shade, art, music, and stuff for kids to do... but most of all, for me, it's about nice people - like the Salmons.
*PEOPLE* make the world go round!!!!

Wish I could visit some of the places you write about! And yes, I would have to buy a bird platter. And oh! Those balloons!! And it might interest you to know I make a recipe that uses canned salmon.
