If you are passing through Lawrence over the holidays, and want to see something interesting, cruise by 11th and Rhode Island streets.
Here, on the site of an old lot that used to be a Packard junkyard, you will find Nick Schmiedeler's sculpture. It's made of found objects - many of them Packard parts. But also some street sweeper drums, anodes from water heaters, industrial chains, pistons, gears, sprockets, and a tractor wheel thrown in for good measure.
You better write this location down. Because at some point in the next month you are going to need a little metal and rust to break up all that red and green and fa la la la la stuff. Trust me on this.
Dear sister, I wanna know how you discovered the word "anode."
love the sculpture and the creativity. thanks for the draw back
to good ol' Kansas.

Dear Sister: you would be amazed the words you can learn playing "words with friends" with your brother.
