Once upon a time I shared an office with my friend Barb. And Barb's mom, Ginger, would always call her in the Spring (and fall) when it was time to plant pansies. When Barb hung up the phone she would turn to me and say "Ginger say's it's time". And just like that, we knew it was safe to plant. Ginger was never wrong.
Barb's mom died earlier this month, so I have to try and figure this out on my own now. In her honor I will do my very best to carry on the tradition by alerting any of you who live in zone 6a (according to the Plant Hardiness Zone Map) when it is time. Which it is, right now.
Boy oh boy do I love that first trip of the spring to the gardening store. It is filled with so much possibility. Things you have been dreaming about and ideas for things you hadn't even conceived of. I'll just be here this weekend, rain or shine, raising my spade and gardening gloves to you, filled with BIG ideas, and always thinking back to the gardeners who have gone before me, thankful for all their lessons.
