August means time for fresh salsa. Probably my favorite thing to do with home grown tomatoes. Next to BLT's of course.
This year, because we are not having a bumper crop of tomatoes, I feel like I have been missing an important part of summer. But... thanks to Victor and Karon Coulter - the parents of my friend Blake, things are looking up.
Up in Barnard, Missouri, population 221, just off State Highway M, they are growing themselves some TOMATOES.
And like all nice people from Nodaway County, they are happy to share.
So in exchange for the second batch I received, I am teaching Blake to make salsa. If he likes it. I suppose it's possible he may not, but unlikely.
We have used the The Frugal Gourmet's recipe forever. With these exceptions - I used 4 jalapenos instead of 5, a whole green pepper instead of 1/2, one large yellow onion instead of two. I also rough chop everything and put it in the food processor.
Super easy. So fresh tasting you just can't get it scooped into your mouth fast enough. Lots of ways you can vary the recipe to fit your personal taste.
Yum, yum, yum! You style and take the best food photos!
