My favorite month to have a day off, in the middle of the week, is October. For the weather, the colors, the neighborhood walks, and to immerse myself in all the intangible qualities of fall.
The perfect fall day for me can include a neighborhood drive where there are pumpkins on the porch, maybe a cobweb or two with a spider dangling down. A sit in a coffee shop with people in sweaters holding warm mugs and a faint aroma of spices mingling with the scent of freshly ground beans. A chat with a friend about our recent travels, what we have been making, and what we may create in the months to come.
There are many uncertainties in life. It's important to balance that with the things you can count on. The stuff that makes you feel good. Like the incredible sense of well being found in a fall afternoon, with a friend.
I found your blog through your sister, and now, every morning, it's the first thing I read. I live in Sonoma County in California and I am one of thousands who has been evacuated due to the fires. I'm staying with my daughter in San Francisco and hoping that I will have a home to return to. While I've been staying with her I still read your blog first thing everyday. I love your thoughts and images about fall and farmers markets and beautiful things. So thank you for being a beacon of light every morning---especially now.
