In case any of you were holding your breath, waiting to hear about the turban squash...
It turned out quite well. Cut in half, seeds scooped out, put in a pan, sprayed with olive oil, tossed in sprigs of oregano, salted & peppered, then roasted (covered) at 400 degrees F for about an hour. Mild and pleasant, a great side dish for any fall meal - pork comes to mind.
It would also be good with brown sugar sprinkled on it, scooped on a plate and topped with some chopped roasted pecans.
While I am at it, the cylindra beets I mentioned a few weeks back - were less "earthy tasting" more delicate than regular beets, just as the farmer I bought them from told me. I roasted them, slipped off their skins, and ate them just like that. My palate is becoming more adventurous all the time.
Also in the Farmers Market follow up report this week, it is worth noting that these pale yellow sunflowers, whose name I do not know, are just spectacular.
I have thoroughly enjoyed them on the dining room table this week.
They are definitely not slouchers, or nodders for that matter. If you want a flower that stands at attention for an extended period of time, I am always going to recommend a sunflower.
A shy sunflower: a sight I never thought I'd see!!!

Autumn brings back heartier, earthier meals. It's a nice change from summer's fresh bounty.
