I just finished reading The Library Book, by Susan Orlean. Mary Ann told me about it, and while we sometimes have slightly different tastes in reading materials, I was intrigued by what she told me about it. You can read more about what she though of it here.
If you are someone who is a regular library goer, went to the library as a kid, love the library with all your heart, wish you would have been a librarian... you will want to read this book. It's loosely woven together by the story of the fire at Central Library in LA in 1986, but it is much more than that. It's the story of the roles of libraries in communities, it's about people who work in and manage libraries, it's about BOOKS. It has given me an even greater appreciation for my own wonderful Lawrence Public Library. If that is possible.
I really enjoyed The Library Book too. Such a variety of topics and a great positive attitude about libraries. There are lots of photos in the print version, and LPL has several copies.
