While checking out the oak leaf hydrangea this week
which by the way, is having a banner year
I happened to notice that the robin nest, that I took down several weeks ago, and filled with shells,
has in fact, been replaced with an almost exact duplicate (if perhaps a bit more crooked) version of itself, in precisely the same spot as nest #1.
I guess my front porch is destined to be a robin nursery. With a plentiful supply of worms nearby, and one successful launching from the nest, I guess it was destined to happen. I was amazed at the speed with which the nest was built. One day it was not there, the next it was completed.
P.S. I saw a brown thrasher the other day. I, along with the rest of the world, have turned into a bird watcher. I downloaded the Audubon app on my phone and have been delighted with this new found ability to figure out what I am seeing.
Ahhh, hydrangeas!! Childhood memories hiding among them in hide and seek. I knew there was a plant identifier app, but hadn't thought about a bird identifier. Great.

Robins will often have multiple clutches in the same nest in the same year. At least, I've assumed it was the same robins in the same year.... :-)
One nest in our yard sustained several broods, until a crow found it, and then the robins never used it again. Though mourning doves have used it a couple of times since then.
