I just finished reading Mrs. Keiller's Marmalade. Recommended by Dottie, it's the story of a woman living out her days on the cliffs high above the sea, alone in her cottage. You will find out how she came to be there, why she is mostly alone, and what gives her a reason to go on.
It might have something to do with oranges from Seville. Or that she comes from a long line of marmalade makers. Other characters enter the story and things unfold.
You might be forced to at least buy (if you don't make) some marmalade while you are reading this book. It will be hard to resist. Take my word for it. I found it especially good on a locally made English muffin.
Maggie, who knows her marmalade, encourages a heavy hand when spreading it on. I do too.
But back to the book. It's not for everyone. It's not like anything else I have read previously and I always enjoy that. Ask me in 10 years and I will still be able to tell you what it's about. Anyone else read it and want to weigh in? Please do so in the comments.
I've been buying Keillor's marmalade since my undergrad days, working at the U of Mich where an woman's English husband bought it by the case. It was sold in real pottery jars then, sad to say I didn't keep any when they changed to a glass look-alike. So of course I must read this book! Thanks!

Jeanette: I bet some Keillor's marmalade would be most excellent on a thick slice of that wonderful toast from Black Dog Coffeehouse/Ibis Bakery.
