Because fall is almost as much about apples as it is about pumpkins, let me remind you that apple crisp is the cousin of the apple pie. The gentler, easier to get along with cousin. That needs no special handling.
If you are not serving this pretty quickly after you bake it, take 10 seconds and warm it in the microwave before you put the ice cream on the side. It's worth it. The apples are tender and juicy, the topping crunchy and not too sweet.
