The Moss clan has just concluded yet another annual trip to Arkansas, where we engaged in tombstone scrubbing, story telling (including many repeats), and leaf appreciating.
There was another installment of the annual putt putt tournament, with Brother declared the winner this year since he won the practice round and it was too cold to play on the day the championship match was scheduled.
My favorite part of the trip may have been cleaning up the headstones, putting out new flowers, setting up chairs, spreading out a blanket, and having a picnic lunch at the cemetery.
A highlight this year was that we rented a bigger place so we could have more space for distancing inside, a great deck for sitting, and a kitchen to do all our cooking at home. Dottie made mom's enchiladas which tasted exactly like mom had made them herself. Brother prepared his world famous risotto, and Cheryl made this insanely addictive Do Nothing Cake. The Moss's never go hungry on vacation.
I think I already mentioned the leaves?
We all raised our glasses of Blanton's in a toast to Dad, and a special shell and sea glass were left from mom. Some years the rocks, shells, golf balls, and other tokens are there the next year. Most times not. We still like leaving them.
I will be very honest in saying we were all hesitant about this annual trip. But with modifications, masks, being outside a lot, and the germ squad (Chris & Cheryl) along for frequent disinfecting, I think we did ok.
P.S. Happy Birthday Mom, from all us kids. Yes, we are taking care of each other... just like you taught us.
I love this, Carol. Your family is a priveldge to see.
