Last night I sadly said goodbye to Fransicsco and Simonopio, the main characters in The Murmur of Bees. Written in Spanish by Sofia Segovia and translated wonderfully by Simon Bruni. I don't know if it's because it is written in Spanish or just because it's the style of this author but it is lyrical.
It is the story of 2 boys, a son and a godson of the Morales family, and their lives in Mexico in the early 1900's. It is a story unlike any I have read previously. The characters captivated me right from the start and held me until the very last page.
Very highly recommended.
