If you, like me, have for the first time in recent memory, overwatered your lovely poinsettia, thus killing it slowly, and can not stand the reproachful glances it throws at you as you walk by it 40 times per day, you may want to do what I did yesterday.
Apologize profusely. Promise to learn your lesson. Put it in the garage. And, go to the store and get some flowers.
Put some baubles underneath on your mom's silver tray that needs polishing badly. The pom-pom's you weren't sure what to do with will go well here.
Go to the basement and see if you have something slightly glittery to throw in the arrangement.
Make peace with yourself and call it good. Whew. That was a long confession.
My own take on the poinsettia question: I keep hope (though possibly not the poinsettia) alive, watering sporadically. If it looks really bad, it goes to the garage. Then I move it to the deck. When It starts looking really pathetic, I move it around the corner where I can't see it. In the fall I dump the whole thing into the compost heap. There you have it: maximum deniability!
