Miss Benson’s Beetle, by Rachel Joyce, is a story about hardship, struggle, and following your dreams even when it seems unlikely they will be realized.
The main characters team up after each experiences a set of circumstances that causes them to need to give up old routines and set sail. Maybe the universe does conspire sometimes to make things like this happen? I don’t have an answer for that, and you don’t either, but sometimes I want to believe it.
If you find yourself in need of a read that is adventurous, magical, takes place halfway around the world, and contains my new favorite curse word (though it is only uttered twice), this is the book for you. I read this as opposed to listening to it, but I think I would also like to listen to it… while I am on a long drive somewhere, that I decide to take at the last minute, with only a sketchy plan in place, trusting my instincts and the universe to make it happen. Wouldn't that be delicious?
I am half way through and enjoying the unexpected nature of the book.
