On a recent short outing, I was so pleased to see this grouping of Star Magnolias blooming. Every year, at the end of March, beginning of April, when the winds blow, signaling the arrival of Spring, I begin to watch for them to do their thing.
The shift from bare stems, to blooms, then leaves, is fast… but oh it's glorious.
This year was no different.
I love the waxy petals, the hint of palest pink, the green of the grass, the blue of the sky.
Every single year, without fail, I feel like it's the first time I have ever seen this transformation.
It never fails to astonish and delight.
Beautiful! We have another version called Leonard Messel magnolia. The blooms are shaped like these, but they are pink. The tree looks like it has many different shades of pink when some are still buds and others in varying stages of blooming. It also doesn’t last very long, but it’s breathtaking. It’s just beginning to bloom now!
