My latest read/listen was a good one. A well developed story about Bird Gardener and his mom Margaret, an American poet of Chinese descent. She is the author of a poem that has become the mantra of those brave enough to speak and act in opposition to PACT (Preserving American Culture and Traditions Act). As the story opens, I originally think I am back in the early 1940's until there is mention of cell phones... and I realize that it is a present day dystopian novel about what can happen if we are lulled into complacency.
Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng is a novel about the power of story. Bird's mom has told him stories his whole life, and they have prepared him (though he did not understand that is what she was doing), to move through the world no matter what circumstances he is dealt.
I listened to this on the libby app. It is read by Lucy Liu who has the most wonderful voice.
Very highly recommended. I have only given you a few details so as not to spoil the story as it unfolds for you. It is one of those novels that stays with you. As it should.
Sounds great! On my list. I just finished The Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell by Robert Dugoni. If you haven’t read it yet, check it out. It’s delightful! The Women by Kristin Hannah is next.

Sam Hell was kinda hard for me! I had a hard time tolerating the bullying. Carol's book recommendations are almost always winners. I've heard of the Women but haven't downloaded a sample yet. So so many good books to read!
