I have been following Tara Faughnan on instagram for a bit now and when she began to post about a Block Studies Collective class, my ears sort of perked up. Sounded interesting, and I really like her general quilting vibe. So, with winter coming, the format of playing with different blocks over the course of 6 months, lots of time to mess around/play each month before moving on to the next block... I signed on.
This is a lot of fun. The format of the class is really easy to follow, good videos, Zooms that can be watched at your convenience, a time for open sewing on zoom, and a classroom for members to post in so you can see what they are up to, and learn from them too.
I played with lots of color combinations.
Specific instructions NOT to overthink things, play intuitively, and find your voice... are all things I can get down with.
Here is the components of block #1 for me. I started arranging, moved all the parts multiple times, cut things down to size to fit and then continued to re-arrange.
This last shot is the final placement, all sewn together, except for a border which will wait because I may add other blocks to this one. After pressing, it all looks nice and smooth and these colors are the most true - with the chartreuse looking more green than yellow as in the previous shots.
Now it's on to my next experimentation block. When instructed to play, we must comply.

Oh, Carol! What a delicious project! It looks like you are having fun and getting great results. Isn’t it delightful to just let color flow through your fingers? I love what you are doing.

Diane: Thank YOU! It really is great fun to just mess around without an endgame that must be achieved. Looking forward to next months study :-)
