All the leaves in the parking lot swirled and blew overnight and ended up creating a lovely carpet at the Moon on the Meadow booth at the farmers market today. It was spectacular. The best part was listening to a man who was examining them and calling out the names of the trees they came from.
As I listened there was plenty of time to examine all the items on display. Starting with the flowers and ending up with that amazing purple-ish bok choy. Ooh it made me want asian stir fry with some white rice topped with sesame seeds and green onions on the side.
How about a squash primer complete with names today?
I ran into my turkey trot friends while I was looking at the squash. They are the ones who go to their daughter's in Chicago every year and participate in the Turkey Trot 5K.
The produce was plentiful this morning. It won't be for long. The numbers of vendors are dwindling, threat of rain, end of season fatigue (is that a thing), plus it's still kind of dark at 7:30 am when the market opens. Lordy next week it will be even darker. I better bring a flashlight.
Warning!!! Cute overload below. Seriously. Can you even stand it? These 2 sisters were lined up for juice from Thuy of Juice Garden. I wanted to throw all my stuff on the ground, get on my knees and hug them. Then see if we could go somewhere and play with kittens and talk about anything they wanted to talk about. Oh those smiles.
I settled for some juice and then moved on to get a basket of apples followed by a piece of pumpkin spice cake.
Another perfectly perfect market morning.
P.S. public service announcement - 1900 Barker's (most excellent bakery here in Lawrence) special bread of the month is cranberry almond. OHHHH does it ever make good toast. If you are in town you might want to swing by and grab a loaf.
